POSITION SUMMARY: Performs a variety of instructional, training, and/or support duties to assist the special education teachers in instruction, supervision, and education of students with severe physical and mental special needs the generally require placement in self-contained classrooms. May also be assigned in one-on-one teacher-to-student situations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Obtained an associate's degree or higher; or meet a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate through a formal state or local academic assessment the knowledge of and the ability to assist in the instruction of reading, writing and mathematics or the instruction in readiness for these subjects. Fingerprint-based criminal history verification clearance. Paraprofessional Assessment Certificate of Completion, or ability to obtain through district program. Basic principles and practices of instructional program within area of assignment. Proper childcare techniques. Techniques and methods of student supervision and classroom management. English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation, basic bookkeeping, as required of specific assignment. Modern office methods, practices, procedures and computer equipment. Valid Oregon Driver License. May be required to obtain a First Aid Card.
